Frequently asked questions

How many sessions will I need?

You are unique and the number of sessions varies and depends on what you want to change. As a general guide, plan for three sessions and a review. I teach every client how to use visualization to strengthen and continue the transformation.
  • I normally suggest 3 - 5 sessions with a review.

  • Clients with behavioural disorders will also benefit from occasional review sessions to track progress and reinforce positive changes in behaviour.

  • coaching normally takes place over a period of 3 months although sometimes a one month course may be appropriate.

Why do you combine so many styles and techniques?

Everyone filters information differently and by combining different techniques we have more resources to draw upon. Some people require therapeutic release whilst for others a coaching approach is appropriate from the start. There is no 'one size fits all' and the combination allows transformation to be easier and faster. If you are looking to improve your skills and go beyond then we use coaching techniques. If you are ready to let go of the past a coaching style is best from the start dissolving obstacles as we go. If you need to release and dissolve barriers before you are ready to move forward then we begin with a more therapeutic approach.

Are there any side effects?

Many positive ones! People often feel energised, relaxed and lighter following hypnotherapy with a sense of serenity and well-being.

Am I going to have to dig up the past?

No. The blend of therapies and coaching is solution-focused. We only touch on things if we need to dissolve them so you can move forward. Again this is different for each individual.

You mention using imagination. I don't have any imagination.

If you can do your problem, you have imagination! Many people are amazed to discover how they unlock their imagination in new ways.

Can you help me? I have had my problem forever!

All you need is the genuine desire to change. You can learn to steer your mind, stop your imagination working against you and get it working for you. With sound neurological techniques you can break even old ingrained unwanted habits and create new supportive behaviours.
By looking at the way you filter information, your triggers, and the steps you have been taking to create the problem, you can choose to do things differently. You will gain tools to empower you, and learn to manage your state.

Do you see couples?

Yes. I often see you individually for one or two sessions first and then both together.

Why hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy helps you unlock the power of your mind so change happens more easily. It enables you to bypass the barriers to your inner thoughts and feelings bringing psychological, emotional and physical rewards. Often you are consciously aware of a problem but may have felt you have no control over it. This is because it is ingrained in your subconscious. grooved in! Your subconscious is the seat of all your emotions and directs nearly all behaviour. It is where all your memories are stored. When you relax to deeper states of mind we can communicate directly with your subconscious to naturally do things differently, resolve any traumas and feel great. Your unconscious mind has immeasurable potential. By accessing deeper states of mind you can utilize your inner resources more fully. This frees you to enjoy a life which is more rich and rewarding.

What is hypnosis?

An altered state of awareness we naturally enter many times a day when you drift down to sleep or drift up in the morning. Therapeutic hypnosis is actually self-hypnosis and you journey into your subconscious, the part of your mind which is your most creative and imaginative and which allows for change. Hypnotherapy is a collaborative process.

Is it safe to go into hypnosis?

Absolutely! You decide how deep it is comfortable to go. It is your experience and you are in control throughout. You will only adopt suggestions which are acceptable to you.

What does it feel like?

Trance is a pleasant and totally natural state like day-dreaming. People are often in a hypnotic state when driving or watching TV, relaxing on a beach or in the shower! Everyone's experience is unique. it is a pleasant feeling. You feel safe and calm. This is because you release endorphins and other natural chemicals which give you an overall sense of well being. Some people feel they experience increased awareness whilst others drift away thinking their own thoughts.

What can I expect during the sessions?

In the initial session I may ask you a number of questions and may take brief notes. These questions will help both you and I to gain a fuller understanding of your problem and help you to focus on your desired outcome. We will discuss how to take things forward. This gives us a chance to get to know each other a little. I will explain to you any techniques that we are going to use and then we will begin the change work. I will only touch on things which can be lightened by the end of the session. Change can happen as gradually or as quickly as you feel comfortable with.

Can hypnotherapy make me do something I don't really want to do?

No, you unconscious mind will not allow you to do anything you are not entirely comfortable with. Hypnotherapy will help you make the changes that you want to make, in the right way for you.

How are Hypnotherapy Practitioners Registered?

Suitably qualified hypnotherapists can apply for membership of hypnotherapy bodies. I am a member of the General Hypnotherapy register and accredited by the National Regulatory Register for Hypnotherapists Each member is bound by a specific code of ethics and has to demonstrate ongoing competence to remain a member. Only practitioners who have completed the required level of training and are suitably insured can apply for membership of these trade bodies.

How quickly will I see the benefits?

Many clients notice some immediate benefits following their first session.

Can anyone be hypnotized?

The short answer is yes! Anyone who is willing can go into hypnosis. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis so you will only go into trance if you want to. And with NLP hypnotherapy it is not necessary to go to deep levels of hypnosis.

If I use self-hypnosis what if I get stuck?

When you go to sleep at night you expect to wake up in the morning! If you fall asleep in self-hypnosis you will just naturally wake up when rested. The state is a natural state you drift down into every night and drift up through every morning.
